Flood Plains and Flooding

A flood plain is flat land close to the river banks which can easily get flooded when the river overflows.

The land is very fertile as it is made up of tiny pieces of silt that have been deposited by the river when it has flooded. It is usually covered in grass because crops are killed by flooding but grass keeps on growing after a flood.
